Catching Up with Long Lost...
I'm feeling rather nostalgic today. Got a Skype call from one of the OG Hab Cabs, one Sean "The Highwayman" Burks. I've always known Sean to be a guy who wants the absolute bleeding edge of home theater technology that is affordable. And this call was no different. Seems he was a beneficiary of a Best Buy Protection Plan. Funny, because I'm usually cursing that and all other infernal "protection plans."
Anyway, he got a new TV you know with all of the bells and whistles including but not limited to 3D and a webcam that allows calls on Skype. Really cool. Now, I am looking at TVs that I cannot afford because I have an old codger that refuses to play nice with any new technology.
Now, I cannot gripe. It is a 40' rear projection Toshiba with ColorStream which I call HD version 1.0. So it will covert a digital signal to an analogue one and still produce a nice picture and best of all, I paid nothing for it. My old buddy Plummer got a deal to upgrade to a much larger screen and didn't have anything to do with his old 40' and gave it to his poor friend who chose his career with his heart and not his pocketbook.
Well it is almost time to upgrade because the Princess wore out the cheap Sony DVD player and I upgraded to Blu-Ray. Well, the codger and his ol' biddy wife, my audio receiver, will not play a Blu-Ray and give you the benefit of the soundtrack. I will really appreciate all of the technical awards during award season this year, because a movie is a totally different experience with no sound.
Okay, so enough of my home AV jealousy and to my nostalgia. I miss my buddies. My Hab Cabs from those days at A&M, my com padre in education Snell, and my gang from high school. I don't see those guys much at all these days. How I turned into such a social media butterfly and all of my close associates see it as some sort of plague that has blighted the earth eludes me. Okay, I'm gonna return to this topic, but I'm also gonna post it because I have not posted in forever. More to come.
